Bail down from $1M to $100k for online threats

Written By Emdua on Rabu, 19 September 2012 | 17.54

LOS ANGELES (AP) An arraignment has been postponed for a Yale dropout who was arrested for investigation of making online death threats against children and charged along with his father with illegal weapons possession.

Los Angeles County district attorney spokeswoman Jane Robison says 21-year-old Eric Yee is expected to be arraigned Oct. 16 in San Fernando Superior Court.

Yee's bail was reduced to $100,000 from $1 million at a hearing Wednesday.

Robison says Yee's father, 62-year-old Roger Manfoo Yee, was also charged with illegal possession of an H&K M-94 assault weapon.

He hasn't been arrested.

Calls seeking comment from a lawyer for Eric Yee and to a listing for Roger Yee were not returned.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- The Indiana Fever will be without two starting guards for at least the next two games.

Team officials say Briann January and Shavonte Zellous have returned to Indianapolis after sustaining head injuries during the 86-79 loss Monday night at Minnesota. Neither will be available for Wednesday night's game at Connecticut or Friday at Washington.

Both players will be checked by the team's medical staff as Indiana prepares for the start of the WNBA playoffs. The Fever earned the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference.

Zellous has started all 31 games this season and was averaging 7.5 points. January started the last 26 games and was averaging 10.3 points and a team-high 3.9 assists.

Rick Curl banned for life from USA Swimming

U.S. Olympic gold medalist Tom Dolan was coached by Rick Curl.

Bob Martin/SI

(AP) -- USA Swimming banned coach Rick Curl for life for an improper relationship with a teenage swimmer in the 1980s.

Curl, who ran one of the nation's largest swim clubs near Washington, D.C., and coached 1996 and 2000 Olympic gold medalist Tom Dolan, was scheduled for a hearing Wednesday before the National Board of Review. But he informed the governing body he was waiving his right to challenge the case.

Curl voluntarily gave up his membership and will be added to USA Swimming's list of banned individuals, which is published on the organization Web site.

The coach was accused of starting a relationship with a 13-year-old female swimmer in the 1980s. Kelley Davis Currin said she received a $150,000 settlement from Curl not to go to law enforcement with details of the illicit four-year relationship, but decided to come forward after the sport was rocked by a sexual abuse scandal two years ago.

Dozens of coaches have been involved in improper relationships with underage swimmers, prompting USA Swimming to launch a new safe sport program that includes mandatory training and enhanced criminal background checks for all non-athlete members. Critics say the sport still promotes a culture of secrecy and has demanded that the top leadership be replaced, including executive director Chuck Wielgus.

The Curl-Burke Swim Club had 10 sites in the Washington area, but Curl is no longer associated with it. The club issued a news release Tuesday saying it had changed its name to Nation's Capital Swim Club, according to media reports.

Currin was notified of the decision to ban him in a letter from Susan Woessner, director of safe sport for USA Swimming.

"I want to thank you for your courage in coming forward and speaking out," Woessner wrote. "Your willingness to share your story is now holding Rick accountable after all these years. Thank you, Kelley. I have endless gratitude."

Currin issued a statement through her attorney, Robert Allard.

"I am happy to hear that Rick Curl may finally be starting to accept responsibility for what he did to me," she said. "I can now only hope that USA Swimming will accept responsibility for refusing to ban Rick Curl when they had knowledge to do so."

As part of a separate lawsuit filed Monday, Allard claims former national team coach Mark Schubert knew of the case for years and tried, without success, to get USA Swimming to investigate.

Allard called Curl "the proverbial Jerry Sandusky within this organization," referring to the former Penn State football coach awaiting a likely life sentence for sexually abusing underage boys.

"The fact that Mr. Curl has now been permanently banned from USA membership is only the first of what we hope are many steps, including imprisonment, which will be taken against him to ensure that justice is served for the heinous acts committed upon my client when she was just a child," Allard said.

"Similar to Penn State immediately moving to rid itself of those who knew and did nothing, we are not going to stop until the same is done at USA Swimming, starting with Mr. Wielgus," the attorney added. He also called for the firing of technical vice president David Berkoff, saying he "has admitted to knowing all about Mr. Curl going back to the early 1990s and failed to take effective action to protect young swimmers."

How often do you check Twitter? On an hourly basis. It's like CNN on steroids. I follow people from all over the world, so I get all the updates, from athletes to comedians, different pastors, people from Italy. They're giving everything across the world - and it's addicting.

Who introduced you to Twitter? Jason Richardson. Shaq is the one who made me think about it (when he tweeted at halftime of a game in March 2009 while teammates with Dudley), but J-Rich is the one who was like, 'Yeah, this is what it's about.'

Three people I follow in my sport are.....? You've got to do Steve Nash and LeBron James. And Tony Allen. He's funny.

Three people who you would not think I follow are...? Kim Kardashian, JoJo, the singer, and Harvey Levin from TMZ.

I wish_________ was on Twitter? Kobe (Bryant)

An athlete from history I wish was on Twitter? (Dennis) Rodman.

Last time I got into a Twitter feud? Last month. It probably happens every other month.

Through Twitter, I've become friends with _______? Larry Fitzgerald

Describe your Twitter followers: Friendly, educated people

******************************

My first encounter with Twitter (Dudley's account can be found here) was because of Shaq, when he tweeted during halftime (during a Suns game in March 2009). I was like, 'What's tweeting?' J-Rich (then-Suns teammate Jason Richardson) was telling me that it was like Facebook, where you can interact with friends, but better. So then when I first cut my hair from braids to low-cut, he was like, 'You should put it on Twitter.'

I thought it was perfect for me and my personality. I thought I'd take it one step further and show my personality while interacting with fans. What it gives that I didn't have growing up is you can know what a celebrity or an athlete are doing, to know what their everyday life is, when we're all really doing something that we love to do.

From me talking to rappers on Twitter, to (singer) Jordin Sparks, to people following you who you watch on American Idol, it's just crazy, man. Like (PGA golfer and 2012 Master Tournament winner) Bubba Watson. I was able to interact with him at a celebrity game and that was before he won the Masters when he was an ordinary guy. And then he won the Masters and now his (Twitter) followers go from like 300,000 to what they are now (approximately 675,000). You know what it is? It's made the world a lot smaller, and it makes everything just a lot easier to interact with people. I think it's great. A lot of people think it's a fad, but I don't think it's going away anytime soon.

For me, personally, I try to deal on Twitter only in positive. But I think the fans get a little too worked up when it comes to the (NBA) games. Especially in basketball, there's 82 games and if your team loses two or three they want a trade. Then they blow up your timeline. It's 'What happened?' Well, you're playing against other elite athletes. I don't let it bother me, because it's just part of life. But if you can't handle it mentally, then Twitter might not be for you. There are going to be fans who say rude, disrespectful things. Sometimes you can retweet it, and try to put that fan on blast and kill them with kindness. But it can get to you depending on how disrespectful people can be.

Another negative thing is that sometimes people take stuff out of context from what you're saying. I remember during the NBA lockout (last summer), (National Basketball Players Association executive director) Billy (Hunter) didn't like a couple of my comments (on Twitter) about how stuff was going on with the NBPA and the NBA. My whole thing was I didn't think we had a good solution. I didn't think we had a good plan.

I had a couple players, and a couple of (NBPA) executive members call me (about his tweets). Billy called and wanted to know what was my take with what was going on and if I wanted to be more involved. I was obviously a player rep (for the Suns), so it wasn't like I'm a Joe Schmoe who's talking about something I know nothing about. I knew what was going on. We got it resolved. It wasn't like a heated blow up, it was like, 'Hey, here's my opinion on this.'

If I don't feel like the plan is up to par, then I'm not willing to sit back and be quiet and let a couple million go, where that couple million when I'm 40 years old is a little better. That's why I felt like, 'Well, if I ruffle some feathers, that's fine, but at least we're going to have a decent discussion about it.'

Twitter helps get the message out there. For one, every sportswriter, every (media) agency is following me. So some other people might have 400,000 to a million followers, but my followers have a lot of followers. They have a lot of different outlets. And I'm someone where, I don't get in trouble, I'm respected by my peers, I'm someone who's educated - went to Boston College, got my degree - so when I say something, I'm not doing it without thinking, or without doing research. My voice is going to be heard. I'm not going to say anything outrageous, but I'm going to say something strong where I don't agree and I'll state the facts of what I don't agree about.

At first, (Twitter) was just talking to fans and a way to give information faster. Like your at a restaurant and you say, 'Hey I'm over here, what should I see (at the movies),' and just giving people an outlook on the NBA lifestyle, like the food, the hotels, telling fans, 'Hey this is what an NBA player is, and I'm going to give you video and quotes from different players saying 'Hey this is what they do.'

But once I started doing different blogs and things, I thought, 'Hey you know what? This could be a post-playing option.'...At the end of the day being a basketball player is short(lived). I want to give myself options and maybe be able to work at ESPN, or do blogs at NBC or be a sports reporter. I don't know if I'd focus just on basketball, but maybe do like (former Giants running back) Tiki Barber used to do, where he was on NBC during the day. Sometimes that comes when you win championships or you're an All-Star. And so far, those two (things) I'm not so my personality has to come out better than those guys.

I'm a fan like these guys (on Twitter), so I'm like, 'Hey what do you think of the Ray Allen situation? Do you think he should've stayed (in Boston)...My place is to have a forum where we can talk about it and I give my two cents from my perspective as an NBA player.

USA Swimming strongly denies cover-up charges

USA Swimming denied Tuesday that it had an agreement with former national coach Mark Schubert to cover up allegations of sexual misconduct by other coaches.

The organization said it felt compelled to comment even though it wasn't named in a wrongful termination lawsuit filed against Schubert a day earlier by a former colleague, Dia Rianda.

The suit alleges that Schubert hired a private investigator to take photos of another prominent coach, Sean Hutchison, engaged in improper sexual activities while working with an elite training program in Fullerton, Calif. It says Schubert was paid $625,000 by USA Swimming not to go public with the information.

"The resolution of the relationship between Mark Schubert and USA Swimming absolutely did not involve any cover-up of alleged sexual misconduct by Sean Hutchison or any other person," USA Swimming said in a statement. "Rather, because of USA Swimming's commitment to safe sport, the agreement between USA Swimming and Mr. Schubert specifically required that if Schubert had, or in the future, received reliable information involving a sexual misconduct Code of Conduct violation by a coach or other member of USA Swimming, he would bring that information to USA Swimming in writing and would testify at a National Board of Review proceeding if requested to do so by USA Swimming."

Rianda, a swimming coach who, along with her husband, has given more than $100,000 to the USA Swimming Foundation, claims she was fired by Schubert in July after she went to work for him at his new team, Golden West Swim Club.

The suit, filed in Orange County Superior Court, says Rianda learned of sexual abuse charges against Schubert's close friend, Bill Jewell, and strongly objected to him working at the club. She said she was dismissed while she tried to keep children from being around Jewell while he was being investigated by USA Swimming.

USA Swimming said it "cannot comment on open investigations." Schubert did not respond to requests for comment.

Rianda's lawsuit also says Schubert knew of accusations against yet another prominent coach, Rick Curl, in the molestation of a 13-year-old girl beginning in 1983. It claims Schubert tried unsuccessfully to get USA Swimming to take action against Curl, who is reportedly set for a disciplinary hearing Wednesday and could face a lifetime ban from the organization.

Kelley Davis Currin has said Curl agreed to pay her $150,000 in return for not pursuing criminal charges after an illicit four-year relationship.

Currin and Rianda are represented by the same attorney, Robert Allard, who is involved in several lawsuits alleging USA Swimming covered up dozens of improper relationships between coaches and underage swimmers, and promoted a culture of secrecy that essentially condoned the behavior. He has called for a complete change of leadership at the organization, including the dismissal of executive director Chuck Wielgus.

USA Swimming counters that it has put in place a new safe sport program that is a model for all Olympic sports, with mandatory training for more than 31,000 non-athlete members, enhanced background checks on nearly 36,000, and lifetime bans for 16 offenders since the new program went into effect two years ago.

Currin said that's not enough.

"I have stated all along that numerous people in the swim world knew what Rick Curl did to me," she said in a statement Tuesday issued through her attorney. "It was the worst kept secret. I read the lawsuit filed against Mark Schubert. I am angry in reading that USA Swimming failed terribly when they had an opportunity to act against Rick Curl when coach Schubert informed Chuck Wielgus on numerous occasions about Curl's molestation of me.

"The fact that Chuck Wielgus and USA Swimming allegedly tried to cover up for Rick Curl by forcing Mark Schubert to accept hush money in return for signing a confidential agreement is outrageous. If USA Swimming has any integrity they would fire Wielgus and the rest of the staff that continues to protect sexual predators."

Several speedskaters defend accused U.S. coach

Lana Gehring says she doesn't believe charges leveled against coaches Jae Su Chun and Jun Hyung Yeo.

Mathieu Belanger/Reuters

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Olympic bronze medalist Lana Gehring, U.S. teammate Jessica Smith and seven other skaters say abuse allegations against their speedskating coach are "baseless" and a "false attack on his character."

Gehring and Smith issued a statement Tuesday saying they don't believe allegations leveled against short track coach Jae Su Chun or assistant Jun Hyung Yeo. Both say they never have seen the behavior described in a complaint to the U.S. Olympic Committee.

They acknowledge Chun pushes hard but say he cares deeply about his skaters. Gehring and Smith say they have faith Chun would take them to the top of the podium in Sochi in 2014.

U.S. Speedskating announced Monday that Chun was being placed on administrative leave and Yeo in charge while an independent law firm investigates.

Obama welcomes Minnesota Lynx to White House

Delayed by the Olympics and Obama's busy schedule, the reigning WNBA champion Minnesota Lynx finally visited the White House.

Pablo Martinez Monsivais/AP

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama has welcomed the reigning WNBA champion Minnesota Lynx to the White House.

It's been nearly a year since the Lynx won the championship, but the team's visit was delayed by the Summer Olympics and Obama's busy schedule.

Obama told team members they are great ambassadors for the game and strong role models for his own daughters. The president says the Lynx have returned glory to the Twin Cities.

Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve thanked Obama for his support of the WNBA and told him the selflessness of her players along with leadership are behind their success.

The Lynx won the championship after sweeping the Atlanta Dream in three games last October. The team is in first place in the league's western conference this season.

Arndt wins women's time trial at cycling worlds

Judith Arndt, who won silver in the Olympic time trial this year, plans to retire at the end of the season.

JERRY LAMPEN/EPA/Landov

VALKENBURG, Netherlands (AP) -- Judith Arndt of Germany successfully defended her individual time trial title Tuesday at the Road Cycling World Championships.

Arndt, who won silver in the Olympic time trial in London and plans to retire at the end of the season, finished the 15-mile race in 32 minutes, 26.46 seconds, an average speed of 27.71 mph.

"I'm very proud I was able to defend my title but that won't change my mind. After this year I'm done," she said. "I'm relieved that my career is over, I've had enough."

American rider Evelyn Stevens was second, 33.77 seconds behind Arndt. Linda Melanie Villumsen of New Zealand was third, 40.57 seconds back.

Stevens said she was content to settle for silver on the tough course.

"I gave everything I had. I made no mistakes; this is what I was able to do. So I'm happy taking the silver medal," she said. "Judith earns the gold. She's been top class her whole career."

The time trial route went from the cobbled streets of Eijsden through the hills of the Limburg province, ending in a brutal climb up the Cauberg hill in Valkenburg.

The 36-year-old Arndt powered up the Cauberg, the most famous hill in Dutch cycling, to seal her second world champion's rainbow jersey in front of thousands of cheering fans.

Villumsen looked capable of besting Stevens' time until she faded on the Cauberg.

Arndt and Villumsen won silver together on Sunday in the team time trial with the Orica-AIS team. Stevens, a former Wall Street banker, won gold in the team time trial.

Olympic time trial champion Kristin Armstrong of the United States retired after her victory in London and won't compete Tuesday.

Czech rider Martina Sablikova, a multiple world and Olympic champion speedskater, finished ninth, nearly two minutes behind Arndt.

Shaun White apologizes for his poor behavior

Shaun White was arrested after pulling a hotel fire alarm.

Evan Agostini/AP

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Olympic snowboard champion Shaun White apologized Tuesday for "unwise choices," saying he got "carried away" after police accused him of pulling a hotel fire alarm that forced guests to evacuate.

White was charged with public intoxication and vandalism and is due in court Oct. 10.

The 26-year-old snowboard star said on his Facebook page he wants to apologize for "any inconvenience it caused my family, friends, business partners, the hotel and their guests. He added that he was "celebrating a happy occasion with a ton of family and friends and got carried away. I'm truly sorry for my poor behavior."

Police responded to the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel at 2 a.m. Sunday. A drunken man identified as White pulled the fire alarm, forcing an evacuation, police added. An employee also reported seeing White destroy a hotel phone.

White was given the opportunity to sign misdemeanor citations and refused, police said. Baptist Hospital said White was treated there and released Monday before he was arrested and booked by police. A mug shot released by police shows White with a black eye.

He was released by police on his own recognizance Monday afternoon .

White, once nicknamed "the Flying Tomato," won a gold medal in Turin at the 2006 Olympics and in 2010 at the Vancouver Games, and he is an action sports superstar whether skateboarding during the summer or snowboarding in the winter. He's also a multimillionaire with a clothing line and signature video game who expanded last year with a company selling skateboards, BMX bikes and other equipment.

White also has dominated the Winter X Games, winning medals every year since 2002.

Mey Melis faces two-year ban after positive test

Karin Mey Melis now faces a possible two-year ban after her positive drug test.

MUSTAFA OZER/AFP/Getty Images

GENEVA (AP) -- Turkish long jumper Karin Mey Melis was withdrawn from the London Olympic final after authorities learned of an earlier positive doping test, the IAAF said Tuesday.

Mey Melis now faces a disciplinary case and possible two-year ban after details of her case emerged almost six weeks after the Aug. 8 final.

IAAF spokesman Yannis Nikolaou told The Associated Press that the world body received confirmation after Mey Melis advanced from the qualifying round at the Olympics that she had failed a test at the European Championships a few weeks earlier.

"We were notified after the qualification," Nikolaou said by telephone from the governing body's headquarters in Monaco. "It was only at that moment we received information."

The International Association of Athletics Federations, which did not identify the substance involved, has asked the Turkish federation to hold a disciplinary case. Mey Melis has been provisionally suspended pending the hearing, the IAAF said.

Turkish media reported that the 29-year-old Mey Melis tested positive for testosterone at the Europeans in late June in Helsinki, where she placed fifth. The reports said analysis of her urine sample was completed by the World Anti-Doping Agency-accredited laboratory in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The South Africa-born athlete claimed she was injured after missing the Olympic final. She is listed on official results as DNS, or "Did Not Start." She could now face disqualification and having her name struck from the London records by the International Olympic Committee.

Mey Melis jumped 6.80 meters in qualifying, a distance which would have been good enough for fifth place in the final. The gold medal was won by Brittney Reese of the United States with a leap of 7.12 meters.

Mey Melis won a bronze medal at the 2009 world championships in Berlin. In London, she was representing Turkey at her second consecutive Summer Games after transferring her national eligibility from South Africa.

Olympic wrestler Gardner applies for bankruptcy

Bankruptcy is the latest in a long line of setbacks for Rulon Gardner.

Matthew Stockman/Getty Images

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- In another setback for one of the world's most decorated wrestlers, Olympic gold medalist Rulon Gardner filed for bankruptcy.

The move came after Gardner tried to capitalize on his fame in numerous business and publicity pursuits over the years.

However, he owes creditors nearly $3 million on a household income of $37,392, court records show.

Gardner disputes much of that debt, saying he is a victim of investment fraud, bankruptcy trustee David L. Miller told The Associated Press. Gardner will offer his version in a deposition scheduled for Oct. 10.

Less than three weeks later, a Salt Lake City auction house is set to sell off his most valuable belongings, including a Porsche, Harley-Davidson motorcycle, dozens of watches and knives, his wrestling shoes and autographed memorabilia.

Court records say the auction items were seized by the Cache County Sheriff's Office with a court order obtained by his major creditor, Las Vegas-based WestCoast Lending Group Inc. The bankruptcy filing was made on Aug. 31.

No phone listing could be found for Gardner. His bankruptcy lawyer, Chad Shattuck, refused comment.

Gardner rose to fame at the 2000 Sydney Olympics by toppling Russian Alexander Karelin, who had been unbeaten for 13 years. A year later, Gardner won the world title.

Later, Gardner nearly died after a night stranded in the Wyoming wilderness, and he survived a motorcycle accident and a plane crash.

Last year, he weighed in at 474 pounds on the reality TV show "The Biggest Loser" before losing weight in a failed attempt to qualify for the London Olympics that friends say taxed his health.

Gardner moved to Wellsville, Utah, years ago and opened a gymnasium in nearby Logan that now operates under another name. He reportedly keeps an ownership interest in the business.

In his family's hometown of Afton, Wyo., Gardner lent his name to a restaurant that served a 1.5-pound hamburger.

Boston-based Cone Communications, Gardner's most recent publicity and marketing agents, didn't return phone and email messages seeking comment.

As recently as July, Cone tried to pitch a story about Gardner's attempted Olympic comeback bid - and the fact he lost 6 to 10 pounds of sweat per workout.

Moore leads Lynx past Fever

Written By Emdua on Senin, 17 September 2012 | 22.03

Maya Moore and the Lynx finished the season 16-1 at home, a franchise record.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Maya Moore made five her six 3-pointers in the third quarter to tie the WNBA record and had a career-high 29 points in the Minnesota Lynx's 86-79 victory over the Indiana Fever on Monday night.

"The coaching staff just made me aware of what actually happened. In the moment, you're just playing," Moore said. "I was just trying to be aggressive and its one of those nights where the shot is feeling good, so you keep shooting."

Moore matched Phoenix star Diana Taurasi's WNBA record for 3-pointers in a quarter set in 2010.

The defending champion Lynx completed their home schedule with a franchise-record 16-1 mark and improved to 26-5 overall. They will finish the regular season with three road games.

Lindsay Whalen added 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists for Minnesota, which has already clinched home-court advantage throughout the playoffs.

With the loss, the Fever (20-11) dropped out of contention for the top seed in the Eastern Conference. Tamika Catchings led Indiana with 19 points and 10 rebounds, Katie Douglas added 17 points, Briann January had 14, and Jessica Davenport 13.

"It was too bad we couldn't do some things down the stretch," Fever coach Lin Dunn said. "We need to stay healthy. We don't need to lose two starters and play the fourth quarter with two starters going down, especially our starting point guard."

The Lynx trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half and were down 62-52 with 4:07 remaining in the third quarter. But Moore hit three of her five 3 pointers in the quarter over the next 3 minutes and Minnesota tied it entering the fourth.

The Lynx forced five fourth-quarter turnovers to take control.

Seimone Augustus returned from a three-game absence due to a sprained right foot and scored eight points on 3-for-11 shooting. Devereaux Peters also finished in double figures for Minnesota with 10.

Indiana's Shavonte Zellous took a blow to the head with less than 30 seconds remaining in the first half and didn't return due to concussion-like symptoms. January sustained an apparent injury with 4:47 to play and was helped to the locker room. She did not return.

Minnesota's victory assured the Connecticut Sun of the Eastern Conference's No. 1 seed.

The Fever have clinched the No. 2 seed and home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs against the third-seeded and defending Eastern Conference champion Atlanta Dream.

White charged with public intoxication, vandalism

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Two-time Olympic gold medalist snowboarder Shaun White faces charges of public intoxication and vandalism, accused of drunkenly destroying a phone at a Nashville hotel and ending up in the hospital after he hit his head.

Officers responded to the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel at 2 a.m. Sunday after a drunken man identified as the 26-year-old White pulled a fire alarm, forcing the hotel to evacuate all guests. An employee also reported seeing White destroy a hotel phone.

White tried to leave the hotel in a cab before being stopped by a hotel guest who told the driver police had been called. According to police, White kicked at the man before running away. The man chased him and they collided when White turned around. White, who is also one of the world's top skateboarders, fell back and hit his head against a fence, police said.

White, who appeared to be drunk, was given the opportunity to sign misdemeanor citations and refused, police said. A spokeswoman for Baptist Hospital said White was treated there and released on Monday before being arrested and booked by police. A mug shot released by police shows White with a black eye.

White was released by police late Monday afternoon on his own recognizance. His court date was set for Oct. 10.

His manager had no immediate comment when reached by The Associated Press.

White won a gold medal in Turin at the 2006 Olympics and in 2010 at the Vancouver Games, and he is an action sports superstar whether skateboarding during the summer or snowboarding in the winter. He's also a multimillionaire with a clothing line and signature video game who expanded last year with a company selling skateboards, BMX bikes and other equipment.

White also has cleaned up at the Winter X Games, winning medals every year since 2002.

Voyeur caught snooping on Chinese swim team

Declan Crosbie attempted to spy on China's women's Olympic swim team, which includes Ye Shiwen.

BARBARA WALTON/EPA/Landov

LONDON (AP) -- A voyeur who snooped on members of China's Olympic swimming team was told Monday he risks being sent to prison if he enters a female locker room again within the next 5 years.

Declan Crosbie, 25, was sentenced Monday after he previously admitted a charge of trespass with intent to commit a sexual offense.

Prosecutors told Leeds Crown Court that Crosbie snuck into a locker room at a swimming training pool and was caught peeking over the top of cubicles as female Chinese Olympic athletes got changed.

When staff at the pool in Leeds, northern England, went to investigate, Crosbie hid in a cubicle and imitated a woman's voice.

Judge Peter Collier ordered Crosbie, who has previous convictions for voyeurism, to attend a rehabilitation course for sex offenders.

Collier also imposed a 5 year order which legally compels Crosbie to stay away from female changing rooms or bathrooms.

Any breach of the order in that time period would likely see the snooper jailed automatically, without the need to charge and convict him of a new offense.

Dalhausser to play in 2013 with Sean Rosenthal

Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers were knocked out of the Olympics in the round of 16.

Mark J. Rebilas/US PRESSWIRE

(AP) -- Two-time beach volleyball Olympian Phil Dalhausser says he will play next season with Sean Rosenthal.

The 2008 gold medalist was looking for a new partner because his old one, Todd Rogers, says he's done playing internationally. Rosenthal made it to the last two Olympics with Jake Gibb, who would be 40 by the time the Olympics are in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

Dalhausser made the announcement on The Net Live internet volleyball radio show. He said he and Rogers "had a good run."

Dalhausser and Rogers had been one of the most dominant teams on the international tour before they were knocked out in the round of 16 in London.

Rosenthal and Gibb were eliminated in fifth place at the 2012 Games, the same finish they had in Beijing.

Ex-U.S. national swimming coach faces lawsuit

Mark Schubert coached the U.S. Olympic team in 2008 at Beijing.

Michael Thomas/AP

(AP) -- A swimming coach and philanthropist claims she was wrongfully fired by former U.S. national coach Mark Schubert after she became aware of abuse allegations within his Southern California club, another embarrassing turn for a sport that has taken steps over the last two years to combat widespread claims of sexual misconduct.

The lawsuit, set to be filed Monday in Orange County Superior Court, claims Dia Rianda was brought in by Schubert to work at Golden West Swim Club last year while he was dealing with personal issues. It says she became aware of sexual abuse allegations against his close friend, Bill Jewell, and strongly objected to him working at the club.

The suit alleges Rianda was fired on July 11 after she tried to keep children from being around Jewell, said Ed Vasquez, a spokesman for her attorney Robert Allard. It does not publicly name a dollar amount she is seeking, but Vasquez said a financial settlement is not the primary goal. He noted that Rianda and her husband, Mike, are well off financially and have donated more than $100,000 to the USA Swimming Foundation, as well are more than $400,000 to purchase a pool for Carmel High School in California.

"This lawsuit is not about money but rather about making change at the top and protecting kids from predator coaches and those in USA Swimming leadership positions that enable these predators," Vasquez said.

Schubert did not immediately respond to a text message seeking comment. USA Swimming was trying to get a copy of the lawsuit before issuing a response.

Allard has filed several prominent suits against USA Swimming, exposing dozens of coaches who were involved in inappropriate relationships with underage swimmers. The cases led to the national governing body grudgingly revealing in 2010 that 46 members had received lifetime bans, mostly for sex abuse allegations - including the former director of the national team.

USA Swimming has since mandated training and set up an enhanced screening system for all coaches, officials and volunteers. At its national convention in Greensboro, N.C., last week, the organization revealed it has trained more than 31,000 non-athlete members, conducted background checks on nearly 36,000 and added 16 people to its banned list since the new program went into effect.

According to Vasquez, the lawsuit claims Rianda received complaints about Jewell from both parents and swimmers, passing on the information to Chuck Wielgus, the executive director of USA Swimming, and Susan Woessner, the organization's director of safe sport. The suit says no action has been taken against Jewell even though he has been under investigation more than a year.

Schubert is a member of the International Swimming Hall of Fame and took over as U.S. national coach after the 2004 Athens Olympics. He guided the team through the Beijing Games, where Michael Phelps set an Olympic record with eight gold medals, but was mysteriously fired by USA Swimming two years ago. No reason has been given for his dismissal.

Since then, Schubert returned to the deck at Golden West, rekindling his partnership with former Olympic champion Janet Evans, perhaps his most famous athlete. At age 40, she attempted a comeback after 16 years away from competitive swimming, but didn't come close to making the team for London during the U.S. trials this summer.

The suit also touches on a sordid affair allegedly involving Jewell and Schubert. According to Vasquez, Schubert hired a private investigator to take photos of another prominent coach, Sean Hutchison, engaged in improper sexual activities while working with the FAST program in Fullerton, Calif. Vasquez claims Schubert received a $625,000 payment from USA Swimming to keep from going public with the information.

Jewell was in charge of the FAST program and revealed to the AP in December 2010 that he had received complaints against Hutchison, though he stressed that no wrongdoing was found. Hutchison denied he was involved with one of his swimmers, but he left the club and was not known to have worked with any prominent athletes leading up to the London Games - a stunning downfall for a coach who had been a rising star of the profession.

Trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. appeals his 10-year ban

Rick Dutrow Jr. was banned from horse racing for 10 years after being cited for nearly 70 violations.

Ed Betz/AP

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- Kentucky Derby-winning thoroughbred trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. has asked New York's top court to overturn his 10-year ban by the state Racing and Wagering Board, saying it raises substantial civil rights issues.

In requesting the Court of Appeals to hear Dutrow's case, attorney Michael Koenig said it should decide whether the appearance of bias by racing board Chairman John Sabini cost the trainer his right to a fair proceeding over drug violations. In court papers, they said Sabini had a conflicting role as an officer of the Association of Racing Commissioners International, which advocated revoking Dutrow's license.

A midlevel New York court in July court upheld the ban. State lawyers countered that the midlevel court found no evidence of actual bias, urging the top court to reject Dutrow's case.

"In the absence of any proof that the chairman was biased and that the determination flowed from that bias, petitioner did not establish that he was deprived of a fair hearing," Assistant Solicitor General Kathleen Arnold wrote. She also said allegations Dutrow's punishment was "based on vindictiveness," and that the midlevel Appellate Division failed to substantially address that, is not a constitutional question.

Meanwhile, Dutrow has continued working with his punishment stayed while Koenig pursues the appeal. In August, his colt Willy Beamin won the $150,000 Albany Stakes at Saratoga Race Course for 3-year-olds bred in New York.

"The substantial constitutional question that emerges on this appeal is the proper legal standard to be applied when challenging a quasi-judicial decision maker's impartiality under the due process clauses of the New York State and U.S. Constitutions," Koenig wrote. "This court has repeatedly said `an impartial decision maker is a core guarantee of due process, fully applicable to adjudicatory proceedings before administrative agencies."

Koenig said his client initially faced only a 90-day suspension in early 2011, which was immediately appealed, and two weeks later the racing board proposed turning it into a lifetime ban. In the meantime, he said Sabini had received emails from the racing commissioners association, where he was secretary and treasurer, including one noting that the staff of "an influential U.S. senator" said the 90-day suspension seemed like a "light penalty."

The three-member racing board in October cited infractions including syringes containing a painkiller and sedative found in Dutrow's desk and the painkiller butorphanol, an opioid analgesic, found in the urine of his horse Fastus Cactus in November 2010, after it won at Aqueduct Racetrack. The board also fined him $50,000.

The trainer had told a hearing officer that he didn't know how the syringes got into his desk. A blood test of Fastus Cactus didn't show any butorphanol, and Dutrow's expert witness theorized that the urine test might have been contaminated. He faced brief New York suspensions for drug violations in 2003, 2004 and 2008.

Dutrow's subsequent 10-year ban is among the board's harshest penalties, second only to the lifetime ban in 2009 of breeder Ernie Paragallo after malnourished horses were found at his Hudson Valley farm.

Dutrow trained Big Brown to Derby and Preakness wins in 2008. He was refused a license to race in Kentucky last year. He was the leading trainer at this year's spring-summer Belmont meet with 27 winners, according to the New York Racing Association.

The decision by the seven-member Court of Appeals whether to hear Dutrow's case is expected in October.

WNBA: Johnson powers Shock past Silver Stars

Written By Emdua on Minggu, 16 September 2012 | 17.29

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Temeka Johnson scored 18 points to lead the Tulsa Shock to an 80-70 victory against the playoff-bound San Antonio Silver Stars on Sunday.

Ivory Latta added 15 points and Roneeka Hodges 11 for Tulsa (8-23), which won its second straight after a four-game skid.

Sophia Young scored 15 points and Danielle Adams 12 to lead San Antonio (19-12), which has lost seven of 10 since a 12-game winning streak. Becky Hammon and Jia Perkins both scored 10 points.

The Shock shot 63 percent (12 for 19) on 3-pointers as Hodges went 3 for 5 from beyond the arc and Johnson was 3 for 3. Tulsa outscored the Silver Stars 10-2 in the final 5 minutes of the game to turn a close contest into its first victory over San Antonio in five meetings this season..

"Today they were better than us," Hammon said. "I don't necessarily think they are the better team, but today they were, so give them credit."

Young's layup with 4:57 was San Antonio's last points until Adams hit a short jumper with 25.2 seconds left.

"Defense makes stops," Latta said. "We can go down and score anytime. We did a great job on Sophia. Everybody else got out on their shooters."

The fourth quarter started off as the third did, with San Antonio opening strongly only to have Tulsa respond with its own run.

Adams' layup completed a 6-0 run that tied game at 64, but the Shock regained the lead when Jennifer Lacy made a layup and Hodges a 3-pointer for a 69-64 advantage.

Courntey Paris' layup gave Tulsa a 74-68 lead with 2:56 left in the game, and neither team scored until Latta's jumper about 80 seconds later.

"We executed really well down the stretch," Shock coach Gary Kloppenburg said. "We had a couple of big shots go in (and) we got stops down the stretch when we needed them. That has been our problem with San Antonio. Before, in the fourth quarter, we were usually right there in the game and we could not get some key stops."

San Antonio finished the game shooting 39 percent from the field (26 for 66) after both teams shot better than 50 percent from the field in the first half.

Liberty 75, Mystics 68

WASHINGTON -- Trailing by nine points with about nine minutes remaining, a loss to last place Washington could have dealt a serious blow to the New York Liberty's playoff chances.

However, thanks to Cappie Pondexter, Nicole Powell and some stifling defense, the Liberty remain in control of their future.

Pondexter had 30 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, and 11 rebounds as the Liberty rallied to beat the Mystics 75-68.

"Defense is our key," Liberty coach John Whisenant said. "And Cappie. She's been awesome. She's our MVP and the most important player to her team of anybody in the league."

Powell scored 10 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter as well and Essence Carson added 15 points as New York (14-17) won its third straight.

The Liberty began the day with a one-game lead over Chicago for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Sky play at Phoenix later.

Jasmine Thomas scored 16 points (on 7-of-11 shooting) and Monique Currie had 12 to lead the Washington (5-27), which has lost 11 straight.

Speedskating coach Chun denies abuse charges

U.S. speedskating coach Jae Su Chun has denied claims of verbal, physical and psychological abuse brought by current and former members of the national team, including five Olympic medalists.

"I have not abused athletes in any way and am confident I will be found innocent at the outcome of the investigation," Chun said in a statement released Sunday through spokesman Hyonmyong Cho.

Nineteen athletes filed a wide-ranging grievance against U.S. Speedskating and 14 signed a code of conduct complaint with the U.S. Olympic Committee on Aug. 30.

A USOC spokesman confirmed on Friday the organization is investigating charges that include accusations Chun slammed an athlete against a wall and repeatedly hit him, threw bottles and chairs at skaters, and repeatedly told female skaters they were "fat" and "disgusting."

Haskins, Shoemaker win USA Triathlon titles

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- Sarah Haskins and Jarrod Shoemaker won their second career USA Triathlon Elite National Championship titles Saturday at the Nickel City Triathlon at Gallagher Beach.

Haskins, from Colorado Springs, Colo., finished the 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike and 10-kilometer run in 2 hours, 3 minutes, 5 seconds. She won her first national title in 2006.

"It's special, for sure. Having not made London, it's nice to be able to walk away with a win," said Haskins, a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic team who failed to qualify for the London Games.

Shoemaker, from Clermont, Fla., won in 1:52:44. He also took the 2010 title.

"After I didn't make the Olympic team, I definitely put a big star next to this one and wanted to come out and win it," said Shoemaker, who represented the U.S. in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. "It was great to have almost a perfect race."

Haskins and Shoemaker each earned $8,000.

Jaga Pola Gaya Hidup Sehat

Written By Emdua on Selasa, 27 Maret 2012 | 01.46

Jaga Pola Gaya Hidup Sehat Anda penikmat sajian daging merah?

Lemak Jenuh

Frank Hu merekomendasikan masyarakat agar tak mengonsumsi daging merah melebihi 70 gram sehari.

Daging merah mengandung konsentrasi tinggi lemak jenuh.
